I’m a sysadmin and programmer for blumenthals.com, local web development and hosting company based in Olean, NY. We handle many smalltown technology needs, such as web hosting, computer service, site design and development, and also a few more complex projects. I also provide web application development consulting, doing everything from application design and implementation, support/modifications, and design/security auditing.

We maintain an internally-developed CMS for use on small to medium websites, with the design goal of absolute simplicity combined with a powerful enough featureset to handle any smallscale needs. I’m currently in the midst of a complete rewriting project, to include WYSIWIG editing, simple database functionality (Think searchable used car listings, job listings, and web-form submission), better modularity, and a unified code base for all of our customers.

The goal of this blog will be to talk about common sense ways to look at administering small deployments. It won’t necessarily be about the latest technologies, or the newest fads in technology development, just things that have worked for me to keep things running smoothly.
